The A & S Federal Credit Union was established in March of 1940 by a handful of individuals who foresaw the need for a financial institution to serve people of ordinary means. The credit union, formerly know as the A & S RR Employees Federal Credit Union, was formed with money deposited by people who worked on the Aliquippa & Southern Railroad. This credit union has never received any money from any other source other than members’ deposits. By pooling their money, employees of the railroad were able to establish a financial institution that paid a good return on their savings while offering low rates on loans for employees who needed to borrow. The true story is in the individual members who, over the years have demonstrated their faith in this credit union by remaining loyal and enabling us to carry out the credit union philosophy which is people helping people.
The A & S Federal Credit Union remains a non-profit financial organization owned and operated by the members for the benefit of all who belong. As a member of the A & S Federal Credit Union you become part of our membership, which elects the Board of Directors to oversee the operation of this credit union. Earnings are returned to our members, after expenses, in the form of dividends, competitive loan rates and other benefits. Our mission is to provide reasonable rates of interest while encouraging our members to practice responsible financial practices. The A & S Federal Credit Union strives to uphold the philosophy of credit unions: Not for Profit, Not for Charity, But for Service.
